Description

The EqualLogic PS6110 is a single-port 10Gb iSCSI SAN with 24x 2.5″ or 3.5″ disks with capacities of up to 8TB per drive & rotational speeds of 7.2k, 10k & 15k RPM as well as SSDs in up to 800GB capacities. Hybrid arrays combine 7 SSDs with 14 mechanical disks. SSDs are used for “hot” data as well as caching.

Arrays can be combined in a group with up to 16 members in one group for a total of 384 drives and 1.5 PB. Up to 1024 volumes with a maximum volume size if 15TB.

EqualLogic arrays support automatic data tiering, snapshots, replication, load balancing and thin provisioning.

Suffixes:
The suffix of the model represent the drive speed (PS6110XXX)

• PS6110E: 7.2k RPM disks
• PS6110X: 10k RPM disks
• PS6110XV: 15k RPM disks
• PS6110S: SSDs
• Letters are combined for hybrid arrays:
  • PS6110ES: 7.2k with SSDs
  • PS6110XS: 10k with SSDs
  • PS6110XVS: 15k with SSDs

Drives:

• 2.5″ SSDs available in 400GB & 800GB capacities
• 3.5″ 7.2 RPM drives available in 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, 4TB, 6TB & 8TB
• 2.5″ 10k RPM drives available in 300GB, 600GB, 900GB and 1.2TB
• 2.5″ 15k RPM drives available in 300GB & 600GB
• All drives require unique EqualLogic firmware.
• Some drives area available as Self-Encrypting Disks (SED)

RAID:

• Supports RAID levels 6, 10, 50
• RAID 50 is not available with drives larger than 3TB
• RAID 6 is the only option for hybrid arrays with SSDs & mechanical drives
• RAID 5 was removed in order to increase reliability
• RAID sets & Spare Disks:
  • RAID 6: (10+2) (9+2) disk groups with 1 hot spare disk
  • RAID 10: (6+6) (5+5) disk groups with 2 hot spare disks
  • RAID 50: (5+1, 5+1) (4+1, 4+1) disk groups with 2 hot spare disks

Controllers:

• Dual controllers provide active/standby redundancy. In the event of a failure, the standby controller takes over automatically.
  Controllers are designed to quickly fail over from primary to secondary maintaining network connectivity with minimal to no disruption in service (if all systems are properly configured)
• Vertical port failover allows traffic to pass through the standby controller’s port in the event of a network failure on the primary controller.

• Ports (per controller):
  • 1x 10Gb SFP+ ports
  • 1x 10Gbase-T RJ45 ports
  • 1x management port RJ45
  • 1x serial port DB9
• Either SFP+ OR RJ45 ports can be used, both port types cannot be used simultaneously.
• Only one controller is active at a time. The other controller is purely a standby until failover occurs.
• Controllers are hot-swappable
• Capacitor module provides backup for integrated cache, preserving data until the system can be powered back on again.

• 2U chassis uses 2 x 700 watt power supplies. Auto-switching 120- 240 Volts AC, 50-60 hertz
  Requires 3 amps at 120 volts ( 5 amps required for cold start up)
• 2 x 1060 watt power supplies. Auto-switching 120- 240 Volts AC, 50-60 hertz
  Requires 4 amps at 120 volts ( 7 amps required for cold start up)
